La Belle Dame Sans Merci

The poem La Belle Dame Sans Merci by Keats is...well, honestly, a bit of a personal obsession of mine. And I've wanted for a while to do some pictures inspired by it. But it would be hard to ever do anything half as glorious as these four images Viona Art just posted on her portfolio. I love how the first and fourth images are clearly inspired by Waterhouse, but the Lady using her scarf instead of her hair to pull him downward is a creative twist on the traditional image.

Beautiful images for a rainy Saturday morning!

  2. Hello Lady Grace,

My name is Florent, I am French and I am a great lover of the pre-Raphaelite art since my teens. With some French friends I met on the Internet (they are all women!) we share our great passion for what should be called the summit of art since the art is.

I already know the art of Viona Ielegems, she is absolutely great, and inspires some of my female photographer friends. I am a great lover of John Keats’ poem and the different pre-Raphaelite paintings depicting that woman.

I have discovered your beautiful blog a long time ago, I think it is time to leave a first comment! Your blog, and the “Pre-Raphaelite Sisterhood” one are in my opinion the best English-speaking blogs dealing with that subject.

The real reason I wanted to post this comment is because there is a French model that we love, my friends and I, and she is called Miss Pandora. I discovered today a series of photographs of her which are freely inspired by Dante Gabriel Rossetti’s paintings, I think you may love it!

I have to admit something to you: I have found many pre-Raphaelite women all around the world! If you want, I will send you the links to the websites... All of them are redheads and like to take photographs of them wearing medieval dresses… Pre-Raphaelite women are just the most beautiful ones! And you are clearly a pre-Raphaelite woman!

So here is the link to the series of photographs I was talking about:

And here is Miss Pandora’s site homepage:

And finally, that’s her Facebook fan page:

  3. La Belle Dame Sans Merci is one of my all-time favorite poems. I've even done readings of it at our local poetry salons. These images are quite magical and capture the romantic allure of the poem. Thanks for posting them.

  4. Hi Florent!

I love Miss Pandora! Her work is so lovely, isn't it? I'm so very sorry it has taken me so long to respond to your lovely comment. I would love to hear more about other Pre-Raphaelite muses if you read this comment.

Yves Fey, La Belle Dame Sans Merci is my very favorite poem, so I was giddy to see these photographs!! :)
