Yesterday at the library, a book came past my desk with a cover that made me chuckle. It was an old edition, but I finally found an image of the cover online.
As you can probably already tell, this cover is a total rip-off of Dicksee's La Belle Dame Sans Merci. Flip the image, put the guy in an anachronystic white poet shirt, and the girl in a 1970s Gunne Sax dress. Voila!
It amused me, and I thought it might amuse you.
How funny - too bad the artist didn't know the difference between working within a "theme" and ..... what do you call the visual equivalent of plagarism?
ReplyDeleteI am excessively diverted.
ReplyDeleteI love your title!!!! There are some things that should be left alone and that is great art! The original is one of my favorites. Anita
ReplyDeleteLee Ann, I totally agree. It's one thing for an artist to explore the composition of another artist, but use their own, entirely different style. But for an artist to just paint a mediocre copy like this? ha!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you all are amused :D
